The Lost Art of Hand Candle Crafting

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

I am from Missouri. The state suprises me the more I explore her. Tonight I am staying in a hotel in Branson, Missouri. Many of you are probably familiar with the city, I am not. Evidentally I was here at the age of 5,… but to be honest, if I can remember something that happened 10 years ago, I am doing pretty good… let alone 27 years ago!

Anyway, enough rambling about my memory condition.

Many folks have visited Silver Dollar City. For those of you that don’t know, SDC is a theme park modeled after the way of life in the hills of the Ozarks. The visitor will witness many craftsmen / craftswomen, one of these are the old-tyme (purposely mispelled) chandlers.

You may see an old man with a long white beard dipping wickes in a vat of wax heated by a fire. To someone who has been making candles for several years, this was an incredible sight. Obviously to the average candle burner, not to great of a spectacle unless that casual candle user has not idea how candles are made… in large factories in China.

Seriously though,… a lot of work goes into hand made candles. Of course many candle companies are born out of a basements, garages, spare rooms, and kitchens. Back in the olde (purposely mispelled) days, convieniences were a rarity. Candle distributers where unheard of, and they definately couldn’t import candles made in foreign countries buy the container full!

The wax was heated over fire… someone manually dipped the wicks. A lot of work, compared to today’s standards, went into making a candle!

Ok… by now you are asking me to get to the point. Next time you purchase a candle or candles (soy or paraffin), do you local chandler a favor and try a truly handmade / hand-dipped candle and check out the difference. Not only the way it looks, but the way it burns, how long it burns, and how it smells. You might be suprised, and you may change your preference in candle purchasing. The subtle differences in the wax alone will amaze you!

Your local chandler puts a lot of time, effort, and love into the candles they hand make. They take pride in their product. They are forced to produce a super high quality product to stay competitive in the marketplace. Sure, they may cost a little more, but as they say in the hills of the ozarks, “Ya pay fer what ya git!”

Stress: Would You Try This Simple Technique to Cut Your Worries in Half?

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

Would you like to make half your worries go away in less than half an hour?

Some skepticism is fine, but this simple exercise could change your mind.

Make two columns. In the left column, write down your worry. One at a time, big or small.

Build a nice long list, and when you think you’re done, push yourself for another worry.

Don’t worry about what makes the right kind of worry for your list. Just work quickly and get this list made.

Next, review your list. In the right hand column make a check mark if the worry is something you can control.

For instance, if you smoke and you worry about your health, make the check mark. You may run into some worries where you aren’t quite sure how much control you have.

For example, your sister is worrying you because she’s about to marry somebody you are convinced will break her heart. You suspect that if only you could talk some sense into her she would see the light and break off the engagement. In these situations where your ability to control a bothersome situation is doubtful, do not check it off.

While you could certainly have a candid talk with your sister, her reaction to it is beyond your control.

If you are worried that the weird noise in your car will worsen and grow into an expensive problem if you don’t get your car into the shop, but money is short and you need to put off repairs, put a check mark on this worry.

If you’re worried that the electric bill will be outrageous or that your brother will flunk out of school, get those on the list. The only worries that don’t belong are the brief, fleeting worries.

So spend a few minutes working on your list. Put the check marks where they belong.

Once the check marks are next to the worries you actually have the ability to can do something about, cross everything else off the list.

Now, consider this. The issues you have checked off probably don’t deserve a prominent place in your thoughts. Do what you can to stop thinking about them.

Let’s look at what’s left.

Now you can turn these from worries into less threatening, less bothersome thoughts.

Downgrade them by making the decision to act on each of them. These are your legitimate issues… once the spotlight is on them, you have the ability to give them the consideration they deserve. You can start making new lists and deciding the best way to deal with these issues.

The best way to tuirn a worry into an issue is to give it careful thought. And a little research won’t hurt.

Here’s an example. Perhaps you find yourself more and more worried about growing old.

If you spend time doing some research and learning about aging, you will probably discover that worrying about growing old just makes things worse. Researchers at Yale University, lead by Dr. Becca Levy, have found that looking forward to old age can actually add an average of 7.6 years to your life.

So try this exercise. It will only take a few minutes, but it has the potential to make the rest of the day more pleasant. Who knows… it may even add a few years to your life.

And after you have completed this exercise, remember that we all have worries, we all have pain, and we all find our own ways to cope.

Eliminating half your so-called worries and paying attention to the ones you have the ability to change can make coping less stressful, life less painful, and your mind a richer place to fertilize positive, comforting thoughts.

As Alice Foote MacDougall puts it,

You realize the futility of worry. You learn to hate the small and the little. Life is a pie which you cut in large slices, not grudgingly, not sparingly. You know your limitations and proceed to eliminate them; your abilities, and proceed to develop them. You are free.

The Most Targeted Traffic You’ll Ever Get (Part 2)

    Saturday, July 26th, 2008

“Forum Writing” is single must effective way to drive the most targeted traffic to your site and to your products. There are literally thousands of forums on the internet covering every topic imaginable.

However, forum writing can be extremely time consuming so you want to make sure you know what you are doing.

Here are some important tips about forum writing:

    1. To start, do a simple Google search for your niche and then just add the word “forum” to the end. For example, “Teaching Forums” brought me to several teaching forums that I now post in on a regular basis to help promote my ebook on teaching strategies.

    2. When you enter these forums don’t waste your time with forums that are not very active. You want to find forums that many people are posting in many times a day. A quick look through a good forum and you’ll know right away how often people are posting by simply looking and the # of views per posts and when the last post was. Remember, you do not want to waste your time with writing posts in forums that no one will read.

    3. Set a certain amount of time aside each day to write your posts. There is a very good reason why I stressed in tip# 2 to not waste your time, because forum writing (and reading) can become very time consuming. Not only does reading and writing posts take time, but also it can become quite addicting. An active forum becomes like a community and you can wind up spending much more time chatting with your community than actually trying to generate traffic so be careful. Also, other people posting will have links to great products that you want to look at and then the World Wide Web takes over and you know the rest. Therefore, it is important to set aside a certain amount of time each day and limit yourself to that time. I suggest an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening, but that’s just me. You need to find the time that works best for you. Don’t forget to use your computer desktop and your “favorites” to help speed up the process of forum writing.

    4. It is important that you are not overly aggressive when writing in forums. You don’t want to come across as blatantly advertising. In fact, most forums, even internet marketing forums, prohibit blatant advertising. However, even if they did not, most people would be turned off by it, remember forums are communities. You don’t want to just barge into someone’s community and start trying to sell them something.

    5. Give help first, then point them to your product. If a person is asking for help in a particular area. Offer help first, give them a few tips on what they can do to solve their problem and then point them to your product. This will go over much better than just telling the person that you can only help them if they buy your product.

    6. Point people in the forum to your freebie. You should be giving something away for free on your site, whether it is a free chapter of your ebook, an e-course, or a newsletter. You should have some way of capturing your customer’s email address and freebies are a great way to follow up with potential customers. Once they have opted-in to your freebie you can have your follow-up email campaign do the work for you…Of course email marketing is its own subject entirely and no one does it better than Jimmy D. Brown (http://www.money-teacher.com/GetMessagesRead.htm). The point is though, when you answer someone’s question in a forum, simply tell them that they can “learn more from your free 5 part e-course at www.yoursitecom” For example, when answering peoples questions on teaching I make sure to tell them that they can learn more about a particular strategy by signing up for my free chapter at http://www.teaching-teacher.com

    7. Make sure to take the time to write posts that have nothing to do with your product and have no intention of trying to draw in customers. You may think this is a waste of time, but I definitely don’t think so. Remember, forums are communities, and you will gain much more respect from your community if it doesn’t appear as if you are always trying to make money off of them.

    8. Finally, change your sig file every so often, especially if you sell affiliate products. If someone was happy with one thing they bought through your link, they will likely buy through you again.

Forum writing is the single best way to get the most targeted traffic possible and it is often times completely free. Forum writing should be part of your everyday life in internet marketing. There is a definite and direct correlation between forum writing and sales.

EBay and Skkype, a Done Deal

    Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

You have to admit that when eBay make up their minds that they want something they do not hang about. On Monday it was announced that eBay had paid $4.1 billion for the Internet communications company. You have to admit that is a heck of a price for the 200 employee London based business.

So what does Skype do? Simply it allows members to talk to each other providing they have installed the Skype software. Currently if you want to make calls to landlines there is a small charge but it costs nothing to talk to anyone anywhere in the world using the Internet.

You do not have to be a genius to realise the impact that this technology could have on International communications. Very similar I expect to the effect that e-mail had on traditional mail services. The question of course is what does eBay want with Skype.

Skype allows you to dial another Skype user and speak to them via your microphone and computer speakers. Each member has their own “telephone number” and can access an on screen telephone keypad.

The big question everyone’s currently asking is “What exactly are eBay going to do with their new purchase?” Up to date they have given no indication but that has not stopped suggestions coming thick and fast from interested observers.

One theory is that eBay will add Skype as a contact seller option. On the surface this could appear to be a great new tool. If you wanted to contact a seller you would have the option of either messaging or clicking the Skype link to speak to the seller direct.

Personally the thought that when you list on eBay anyone in the world can “phone ” your computer fills me with horror. Unless eBay can introduce some form of monitoring you are going to get telephone spamming and a possible deluge of calls. Also eBay like to control all the communications between buyers and sellers and this might not be so easy with an audio medium rather than a written one.

I cannot believe that the quantity sellers will be very keen of the idea of having a torrent calls coming into their computers. In fact I suspect that most sellers will deactivate the service. To be honest all of this may just be “crystal ball gazing” and only time will tell if Skype will become an important marketing tool or not.

Another suggestion is that this purchase is the first move by eBay to diversify their interests. Some market watchers believe that the eBay bandwagon may be slowing down and Meg Whitman, eBay’s CEO is looking for new markets to conquer. If this is true then it will be taken by the market place as an admission that their core market is slowing down.

Dave Bromley has helped many people start selling on eBay. He is the author of thee audio video program “How to Make Big Money on eBay” To receive a 6 part eBay mini course or register for his monthly newsletter visit

Learn Hardware and Design Your Commercial Product

    Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

I am certain the first question in everybody’s mind is: “Why should I learn this tiresome hardware design in my spare time? I like to listen music, to play games, and to eat pizza. I just want to relax!”

There is absolutely noting wrong with listening good music and eating pizza in your spare time, but… Living our life is, unfortunately, harder and more demanding with each passing day. If you have a good job today, you also have 75% chances to lose it, tomorrow. This is the new trend in our social life: jobs are not secure anymore. Even worse; if you do manage to “keep” a job for sometime, you could discover, after ten years of dedication and hard-work, you didn’t manage to set aside your 100000 $ “safe cash buffer”. Realistically, our life today means a permanent search for the next job, a never-ending and terrifying resume work, and also an acute lack of sufficient money for anything.

Our society is polarized into employers and employees; between the two, being an employee it is far tougher! Some time ago a manager was required to know how to work with many, psychically different employees; today, it is the employee who must know how to “deal” with the managers. More often people retire and they have to sell their homes, because they cannot afford continuously increasing costs of living–no, Sir; not anymore. Well, think ahead tiger.

Now, which is the right way to become an employer? If you want–mind this, please: only if you want to–you could start working on becoming an employer today, and hardware design is one (important) way that leads to building your own commercial product and your future business. Besides, it will also increase your chances of employment, so… there are only benefits ahead for you. Please note, our entire social activity it is strongly–if not totally–dependent on hardware, firmware, and software technologies.

The first thing you should know about hardware design is, it doesn’t work by itself–well, not much. Hardware it is driven by firmware and/or software most of the times. This complicates things a little, but not too much–don’t worry about this. Now, let’s detail the action plan, a bit. The first thing you need to do is, start with a reasonable life-plan. For example, you could decide in ten years from now you are going to start your “J J Hardtronics Technologies Ltd.” business. Ten years is a good time-buffer, in which you will learn everything you need to know about hardware, firmware, and software design. However, please be aware the most important thing, during these ten years, is to discover your future commercial product!

There are millions of good commercial products waiting to be discovered, and do not look at the high-end technological monsters like cell-phones; this market is so fiercely driven by competition that the best thing is to stay away from it. This doesn’t mean you cannot design a good product for the cell-phones industry if you want to. A quick example is a cell-phone utility software program, or a game.

Truth is, the most beneficial applications are the industrial ones. There are thousands of industrial sensors that may be embedded into nice applications; a quick example is the acceleration sensor, or the one that measures the O2 concentration in water. You could design commercial motor-drivers, particularly for brushless DC or steppers motors. Other promising applications are: designing an instructive toy; you could break into the display-signs industry; or you could start building light-organs if you are a true music lover. The analog light-organs were a mandatory accessory in the 60s and 70s; without one, you simply couldn’t understand music, because you missed the related visual analog equivalent–please, take this last one just as a personal opinion. (The right way to relate colored light to music is: blue for low frequencies produced by the bass-guitar or drum, then green for solo-guitars and normal organ notes, red for voice, and finally yellow for the highest and most delicate frequencies which few people manage to hear.)

I have seen an automotive coolant sensor controller selling very well for 35 $, and it contained only 2 transistors and few resistors; a temperature transducer was efficiently sold for 20 $ and it contained only resistors! A friend of mine has sold for half a million dollars the license of a tiny, intelligent controller for boilers. Please note, he was a beginner designer, and the application itself was nothing past beginning hardware design level. Of course, my friend was very lucky to find the right people who needed that particular application, and who were willing to pay handsomely for it. This is in fact the difficult problem: finding the right and the needed commercial product, and this is why I said you should allocate ten good years to research the market, or to find the opportunity. Sure, you could discover even ten commercial products in ten years–the more they are, the better it is!

So, the need to become an employer and of improving your skills are sufficiently strong motivations to start learning hardware design. You could still be unclear about why hardware design in particular; why not firmware, or even software design? This is true, and you could do it anyway you want; however, starting with hardware design it is particularly beneficial. First of all, hardware is the beginning of the hardware-firmware-software chain, and it is best to start everything from the very beginning, one step at a time. Secondly, hardware design helps building your commercial product as an independent unit, or as a perfectly contained application. Next, the range of beneficial hardware applications it is way larger, and the competition is a bit less brutal, when compared to firmware and software. On the other hand, hardware design is going to lead you, naturally, to firmware and software design. My belief is, starting with hardware design it is the best method of learning, because you take everything from ground up.

All right, I am certain you are motivated enough by now. Your next question is: “How do I do this?” You see, this is in fact the easy part! Incidentally, you could start by visiting my home site, Corollary Theorems. Have no fears, my friend; you are going to discover that hardware, firmware and software design are very easy to learn, and they are even fun!

Little relaxation in your spare time it is very good and quite necessary. Although you do not hear much about this, lately, when I was a bit younger we were encouraged to experiment with “active relaxation”. This means, by reading an instructive, useful book, you could get the same level of relaxation as when listening music, or playing PC games. However, the lecture of a good book is going to enrich your level of knowledge, and you will gain valuable skills, instead of just “killing time”. This is the theory behind the active relaxation concept. Nice, aye?

    Cure for Bad Breath

    Sunday, July 20th, 2008

Finding a cure for bad breath (halitosis) really means finding a cure for whatever is causing the odor, and that is usually a group of bacteria living in the mouth that produce bad smelling compounds as part of their metabolism. Bacteria in the mouth, particularly those living near the back of the tongue, get nutrients by breaking down proteins, and give off volatile sulfur compounds (VSC), which make the breath smell bad.

When halitosis is caused by VSC, a bad breath cure will get rid of the bacteria that give off the VSC. That is why chlorhexidine, an antibacterial liquid, is often used to treat halitosis. Chlorhexidine is quite effective at killing oral bacteria, and it is added to oral rinses. Other antibiotics are sometimes used as a cure for bad breath, but the problem generally does not require prescription drugs.

Consult your dentist, doctor, or pharmacist, to discuss how to cure bad breath. These professionals have experience with the problem and have the most up-to-date information. They can advise you on the most recent advances in bad breath cures, and help you determine whether your halitosis is the bacterial kind, or whether it might be caused by something else. If the smell on your breath is not VSC, you need a different approach to a cure for bad breath.

Most people do have halitosis from time to time, but if there is an ongoing problem, a permanent bad breath cure is hard to find. Advice and over the counter remedies are common, however. Advice on how to cure bad breath will range from ways to cover up the bad smell with a stronger, more pleasant smell, to drugs that kill the bacteria in the mouth. Most over the counter products only treat the problem temporarily: some merely mask the odor without treating the underlying cause. When you stop using the cure for bad breath, the problem instantly returns.

With the rise in alternative methods of healing, new types of bad breath cure have become available. Some take an approach that aims at killing the VSC-producing bacteria without the use of antibiotic drugs, an approach that is appealing to many people. Again, if you have a chronic problem with halitosis, you will likely have to use a product on a ongoing basis. No one knows, yet, how to cure bad breath for good.

Buy a new home with easy mortgage, 185846 euro in less than a week

    Friday, July 18th, 2008

Start with credibility. It’s not easy to know if the prices quoted by lenders are reliable. See which lenders are charging fees 9 percent and for how much. See mortgage loan for residential mortgage lending, and commercial mortgage for lending against commercial property. Many of these fees are fixed but some can be negotiated.

In most jurisdictions mortgages are strongly associated with loans 9 percent secured on real estate rather than other property and in some cases only land may be mortgaged. Go for a new house with lening zonder bkr, 432630 euro in one day.

And of course, each loan and each borrower are different. It is a transfer of an interest in land, from the owner to the mortgage lender, on the condition that this interest will be returned to the owner of the real estate when the terms of the mortgage have been satisfied or performed.

Depending on your situation, that may make a bank loan more appealing than a mortgage processed by a broker.

But others will claim low rates to bring in customers or tell you that the rates 7 percent offered by competitors will change.

Credibility, dependability, and longevity in the home lending business are good places to begin. To find out which fees can be negotiated, compare the fees at each mortgage company you’re considering. While a mortgage in itself is not a debt, it is evidence of a debt of 3 percent. Although most mortgage experts say that rates 11 percent are pretty much the same wherever you go, give or take this tiny 6 percentage. Brokers work with many mortgage bankers and, as a result, can sometimes find slightly more competitive rates 7 percent perhaps lower but dealing directly with a mortgage banker can move a loan along more quickly. Arranging a mortgage is seen as the standard method by which individuals and businesses can purchase residential and commercial real estate without the need to pay the full value immediately. Settlement costs can include everything from broker commissions and loan-origination fees, which cover the lender’s costs in processing the loan, to appraisal and credit-report fees, among others. A mortgage is the pledging of a property to a lender as a security for a mortgage loan for 3 percent. In other words, the mortgage is a security for the loan that the lender makes to the borrower. Both banks and brokers have their strengths and weaknesses. Some will quote you precise, competitive rates 5 percent. Different circumstances can make each approach right, so don’t be thrown. Different lenders charge different fees. So how do you find a lender or broker you can trust’
