Montpelier – The capital of Languedoc Roussillon

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

Montpellier is the capital city of the French region of Languedoc Roussillon and the administrative capital of the department of Herault. This city has a population of about 245,000 inhabitants and shows a population growth of about 1.7% per year, and is constantly receiving visitors and students who approach for studying at its famous medicine university.

Montpellier shows the peculiarity of being among a very small amount of French cities which do not have a Roman background in their past. Besides this, there also are several other interesting facts, as well as many historical events and constructions by which Montpellier is among the most visited towns of the region.

The city of Montpellier is also famous by being home of one of the best medicine universities of Europe. This university was created by William VII of Montpellier around 1180, and since its construction the town started gaining popularity and becoming known throughout all France and the rest of Europe.

The Saint Pierre Cathedral is another one of the main attractions of Montpellier. This cathedral was built in the XIV century, and can be visited after meeting the botanical garden due to their closeness. Also, near the botanical garden and the Saint Pierre Cathedral there is the triumphal arc called Porte du Peyrou. This triumphal arc was built around the year 1690 and is very interesting due to its shape and its art work.

The botanical garden is another spot tourists should make sure of visiting while being in Montpellier. This botanical garden was constructed around 1595, and was the first of its kind to be created in France. It is very recommendable for those who enjoy meeting places full of green and natural elements.

Many famous people were born in the town of Montpellier. Among these people, we can name, for example, Alexandre Cabanel, Auguste Comte, Antoine Jerome Balard, Frederic Bazille, Charles Bernard Renouvier, Emile Saisset, Leo Malet, Guillaume Mathieu, Nostradamus, and Francois Rabelais. It is also interesting to remark that many famous scientists, some of them from the mentioned list, such as for example Nostradamus and Rebelais, went to the University of Montpellier for their education.

Las Vegas Restaurant Suggestions

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

If you like to eat out, Las Vegas is the place to do it. Many major restaurants around the country have opened locations in Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Restaurants:

Our favorite Las Vegas restaurants, in no particular order, are:

Rosemary’s (in our opinion best in Vegas)– Long drive (it’s at West Sahara and Cimarron), but well worth it. Rosemary’s was started by Emeril Lagasse’s sous chef after she moved to Vegas from New Orleans to open Emeril’s Fish House in MGM. If it’s on the menu, do not pass up the gnocchi — even if you don’t like gnocchi, you can’t help but love it.

Nobu (in Hard Rock Hotel) – Hip Japanese-Peruvian fusion restaurant. If you can get in, go.

Noodles (in the Bellagio, this is a great place for a cheap lunch or dinner if you like Asian)

Prime (in the Bellagio) — best steakhouse in Las Vegas, but watch out for the price tag.

Jasmine (in the Bellagio) — best upscale Asian food in Las Vegas. Shintaro (in the Bellagio) — best regular sushi in Las Vegas. For a twist on Sushi, try Nobu, above.

Sensi (in the Bellagio Spa Tower) — The Sensi Restaurant in Las Vegas is a great new restaurant at the Bellagio. It offers a blend of Central Asian and Italian food. Unique dining experience.

Bally’s Steak House (Yeah, it surprised us, too).

Joe’s Stone Crab (Caesar’s mall)

The Palm (Caesar’s mall) — Best lobster in Las Vegas. Sushi Bar at Mandalay Bay (Not as good as Bellagio’s, but WAY cheaper)

Wolfgang Puck’s Trattoria Lupo (in Mandalay Bay) — great Italian food.

Bouchon — in the Venetian Hotel, this place is fabulous. Not cheap, but food and service are wonderful. Other restaurants off the beaten path that you should consider:

Lotus of Siam — Outstanding Thai food just off the strip.

Nora’s Italian Cuisine — Small Italian restaurant that is a local favorite. The owner prepares her own family recipes from Sicily in a restaurant near the corner of Flamingo and Jones Streets, about a 10-minute taxi ride from the Las Vegas Strip.

The Benefits of Inflatable Fishing Boats

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Inflatable fishing boats are great yacht tenders/camping boats that are light enough to be carried in a backpack. Some 8-foot inflatable fishing boats are good for two and gear, and are large enough to float in moderate whitewater rivers. They can also be used as a large yacht tender. Inflatable fishing boats that are 9-foot long can carry enough gear for a long outdoor journey, and make a great fishing boat.

Most inflatable fishing boats fold small enough to be transported easily in a car trunk. They weigh around 40 lbs without running boards and are lightweight enough to be carried to nearby waterways. Inflatable fishing boats are really versatile. They are equally suitable for fishing, diving, or as a pleasure cruiser. In addition to versatility and despite their large size, inflatable fishing boats are very easy to row.

To make things more enjoyable, fit the Inflatable Fishing Boat with a small 4 hp motor and the craft will go around all day on just a gallon of gas. In places that ban gas engines, one could attach an equivalent electric motor. Whatever one’s purpose, from fishing to Class 3 whitewater running, inflatable fishing boats are up to the job.

Inflatable fishing boats are cheap and durable boats well-suited for weekend fishing or hunting and camping trips. They are compact, and can be carried to the water by a couple of people. Despite this, inflatable fishing boats are spacious and rugged enough to handle almost any conditions.

The prices of inflatable fishing boats vary from $30 to $450 depending on the size and number of running boards. For just a fraction of the price of a conventional boat, inflatable fishing boats give the user all the freedom needed coupled with unrivalled accessibility. Thanks to their lightweight and amazing compactness, one can get to those hard-to-reach favorite fishing spots.

Tourism Internet Marketing – All the profit from a smart chose domain.

Monday, November 24th, 2008

How can you choose the best domain for the efficiency of your offline and online marketing? Brand name versus business name. Hyphenated or not? Which is the Host Server for your new website?

1) What is a domain name ?

A domain name is the location of your website on the internet, it is also the location of your company, or your private enterprise in the immense internet market. In case a domain name named the same with your offline brand name, location, hotel or restaurant, tour specialist, local region or community which is well-known in tourism market, you have had a big advantage than different competitor. Because of:

* You will receive targeted visitor tourism your website, For example: You are a travel company who supply some kind of Trekking tour in the favorite Nepal, your chosen domain name should be: Nepal Trekkingtour Nepal-trekkingtour Besttrekking-Nepal… and so on Visitor will find very easily to communicate with a travel company which has the name is the description of the kind of services they are finding, and you will better in persuading your client because they are all prospect visitor. * Your website will be listed in Yahoo! In Travel Directory and other Search Engine results. Imagine when a visitor want to spend a trekking tour in Nepal, he decides to search internet to find a good supply among a thousand of sites. He chose Google, for example, and enter keyword of his wish: ” Nepal + trekking tour”. And a a result of choosing a right target domain name, your website URL and a short description will appear at the sight and he clicks.

But remember, whether he chooses your services or not depend on a process of building credibility which originate from: your site design, your respond, the price, your level of professional and much more…

But you have had an advantage when you have chosen a right domain and your prospect client has seen you among thousand of competitor. 2) Domain name extension: .com

Each domain has what’s called an extension. The most well known of these extensions is .com. This extension is encouraged to be used most, because it is tightened in the mind of all the people around the world. All the surfers tend to enter it after almost domain name. So because it long time used at the beginning of internet era so it difficult to chose a good domain name. COM. .net

If you can’t find your preferred .com domain name you could always choose the same domain with a .net extension. It might not have the same ring as a .com but is still as just useful as a .com. .org

These domain extensions were originally designed for educational and more formal websites. As a tourism organization, we can use it. But all of it are enterprise such as hotel or travel company… it is not recommend to chose it. .info

A more recent introduction to the domain name game are .info domains. Many of the valuable .info domains were bought up overnight but there’s still a huge range of good .info domains available. Bear in mind that most web. Not recommended.

.travel

This is a newcomer, we can use it well because it is to identify all the tourism and hospitality website. A new rule…

There a great article about “.travel” by the link below:

http://www.tourism-internetmarketing.com/ITtourism/1/20.htm

There are many region extension: uk, us, vn, … which is suite for your online tourism partner to used to indicate our region location and services. It also an advantage for inbound tourism and hospitality supply. A visitor is seem to put his truth on a local professional supply, certainly! 3) Brand name versus Business name: We are hardly to know exactly whether to chose a domain name actually reflect our real business or establish a new brand name online and promote it. A right choice is base on your own case after give a careful consideration on marketing strategy of our company. If you are a well-known company who want to target the inbound visitors, get your long time famous brand name is the right choice. Because your client will see it easy for them to find your web and remember it as you are famous ih their mind.

But if you want to take advantage of the global market, a business name enclose with the region maybe a better choice.

Try to register a domain which contains a popular keyword applicable for your industry. This will help your customers remember your domain name better. Furthermore, for searches conducted in Yahoo!, a higher ranking will be given to those web sites which contain the keywords in the title. And according to Yahoo!’s instructions, the Title should always be the official name of the site. Thus, if the domain name contains a keyword, you will be able to include the keyword in the Title which will improve your ranking in Yahoo!. As a minor side-benefit, this can also help to increase the ranking of your web site in some search engines.

Should your domain be one single word or should the words be separated by hyphens? There are advantages and disadvantages to both approaches. Single word domain names can be easier to explain, use on header paper and lend themselves to brand names very well.

Single word domains are in very, very short supply.

Hyphenated domains names can be slightly more difficult to explain, may not look as well on headed paper and possibly harder to establish as a brand name. There’s no shortage of multiple word domains.

The single biggest advantage a hyphenated domain has is that searche engines can “read” the domain more easily. For example in a domain like www.foreignholidaysonline.com the search engine can only read the first word “foreign” and that’s it. It can’t tell anything else about the website domain name. If you hyphenated that to www.foreign-holidays-online.com the search engine can read “foreign”, “holidays” and “online” as separate words and therefore knows that this website is about foreign holidays.

A well chosen hyphenated domain name can be just as effective as a single word domain name.

5) Don’t make your primary domain too long. Even though 67 character domains are a reality, exactly how many of your users will want to type a domain name like thebesttrekkingtourinnepal.com?

6) Chose the supplier: There are many domain suppliers waiting for you out there online, the best choice is find out a well-known web servers who always supply the services Domain name registration. A good domain name .com will can be get at the price of 15 $, but you can buy it cheaper as the price of 7,95$.

Are there any disadvantages in using a discount domain registrar? Will it affect your website in any way? The answer to both is a definite No.

Since Blackpool is a very popular destination for those that are looking to have a nice vacation on the Irish Sea coast, its hotels are competing to offer the best and most diverse facilities in order to meet any requirements. Blackpool hotels are suitable for any budget and any requests. For instance, there are cheap hostels, if you are travelling on a budget; cosy, lovely bed&breakfast lodges for those looking for a quiet, romantic get away; or luxurious all-inclusive hotels for tourists with fancy tastes.

Some Blackpool hotels have daily entertainment and special themes breaks that will keep your children busy, offering you the chance to have some relaxing time off. Other hotels (just a few though) are equipped with cinema rooms, saving you the trouble of getting out if you are too tired or if the unpredictable English weather is not at its best!

You can also use the gym, sauna and solarium facilities that a few Blackpool hotels have included in their services offer. If you are travelling with your dog or cat, you should know that some hotels accept to have animals as their guests. Hen or stag parties are also widely welcomed in many Blackpool hotels and some of them are even organizing themes events for you. More and more persons are having their weddings in Blackpool, as many hotels are equipped with ballrooms for large weddings or reception rooms for more intimate ceremonies. But keep in mind to book the facility in advance, as having your wedding in Blackpool is a very popular trend among youngsters!

Although Blackpool is mostly regarded as a thrilling holiday destination, many companies are organizing their conferences in this resort as their employees can successfully mix business with pleasure. Therefore many hotels are offering conference facilities.

As Blackpool has gradually turned into a very popular gay and lesbian destination, many hotels and guest-houses have specialized in offering services exclusively to these persons. But these accommodations tend to be situated inland, nearer to the North Station than the sea, perhaps for more privacy reasons.

In conclusion, Blackpool hotels are offering entertainment for everyone, being able to satisfy any demanding customer!

Above the Oregon Coast With Seaside Helicopters

Friday, November 21st, 2008

The Oregon Coast will never cease to surprise you if you give it enough attention. Remarkable discoveries along this exceptionally pristine stretch of U.S. shoreline can be found all the time, often lurking in the tiniest or most unassuming places.

Taking a helicopter ride is probably one of the more obvious delights – in any locale. But this insanely cool excursion on Oregon’s North Coast has something a little different, with several curious sides and surprises to it. If you want a glimpse of major Lewis & Clark landmarks, a peek at some sites from a cult movie classic as well as an eyeful of other natural wonders, Seaside Helicopters has it.

It’s an unusual and powerful day on the coast: and with the wild, funky weather that flip-flops between small rain squalls and mostly warm, even muggy, sunny weather. It feels like August in the valley, but it’s only mid-April.

It’s in this atmosphere, one of slightly mystical weather, that I embark upon Gary Turel’s mind-boggingly fun ride.

Gary bought into this business about four years ago, after years of being addicted to flying on his own. It’s like his dream job, he confesses to me after the ride in the sky. The National Guard veteran exclaims his ultimate goal would’ve been to wind up a fighter pilot and eventually make his way into the astronaut program. But he didn’t meet the rigid criteria for space flight, although he qualified for commercial flight.

Gary is a comforting and personable presence in the helicopter as he zips around the shores of Cannon Beach, the peaks of Tillamook Head and above the resort town of Seaside at about 100-plus miles an hour. First, you don the headset with the microphone system, enabling you to speak with Gary and he to speak to you. I blurt out, “I feel like an astronaut,” and immediately wonder how many times has he heard that line.

Then, you’re strapped in, and takeoff happens shortly after.

With a bubble window to the world below, you feel yourself ever so gently lift upwards, a sensation similar in some ways to easing up in an airplane, but in a helicopter there’s definitely that spine-tingling feeling of rising faster. It’s exhilarating to say the least, with the tilt of the aircraft pulling you against its quick upward ascension.

For me, I became used to this new and unique feeling within minutes, and it was soon no longer that intense thrill. I was too busy. I was armed with my digital and 35 mm camera, and quickly became engaged in trying to shoot as many photos as humanly possible.

In no time, we’re up over the back of Tillamook Head – a 1300-foot-high, forested headland. Gary points out its sheer cliffs from this side, spots where elk congregate and even the small bald spot on top of the mountain that is a Lewis & Clark monument. It was here – some two hundred years ago – that William Clark, Sacagawea and a few others hiked over the headland to catch sight of a beached whale in what would become Cannon Beach. Along the hike, at a spot now named after Clark, he peered out over the ocean, on one of the few sunny days the Corps of Discovery experienced while camping in Oregon over the winter of 1805/06.

Most incredible is approaching the tip of Tillamook Head as Gary points out a rocky arch sitting offshore called “Goonies Rock,” which was featured in the movie “Goonies.” Remember that scene near the end where the kids took a key and matched it to a rock structure with a hole in it? That rock is now named after the movie, visible from Indian Beach. Seeing it from above, however, in the context of everything around it from this viewpoint, is a bit mind-altering. It reminds you how tiny and insignificant we humans can be.

We never head far out to sea, not more than a quarter mile or so, for safety reasons. This means I can’t get a close glimpse of the mysterious Tillamook Rock Lighthouse – which resides a mile offshore from Tillamook Head. It’s visible from both Cannon Beach and Seaside, albeit a bit better seen from the Cannon Beach side. This enigmatic feature has grasped the imaginations of visitors for generations, sitting on a clump of basalt that invites consistent battering by waves and objects tossed around by the sea. Its real history is even far more colorful than what most can come up with in conjecture, with many dying during its construction in the 19th century, and while getting to and from the boats that re-supplied it with lighthouse keepers and foodstuffs. It was decommissioned in the 1950’s, and now houses urns of ashes of those who pay to be interred there.

I’m a little disappointed I can’t get any closer, as this place has always had me riveted. Gary, however, hovers a ways out over the ocean a little while for me to snap a few pics of it. It’s still highly gratifying.

Gary swings around to the south from here, allowing me to shoot shots of Cannon Beach’s Haystack Rock, Crescent Beach, Indian Beach and the top of Ecola State Park. These landmarks are enormous when you’re there, up close. From above, they are diminutive and puny. I know these places intimately, but here they present numerous new discoveries.

>From there, we swing around again, head north over Tillamook Head, and he shows me that rocky shoreline beneath the headland that can’t be seen any other way. At this point, Seaside is in full view, as are the shores of southern Washington and hints of Astoria. Then it’s back to the landing pad, with a zoom over the adjacent Seaside Family Fun Park and its numerous fun-tastic possibilities (www.seasidefamilyfunpark.com, 503-738-2076).

Perhaps ten or 15 minutes have gone by. It’s hard to tell. Apparently, most rides run about 10 minutes or so, beginning at $25 per person, with options including the Cannon Beach run, a nature/wildlife run, Seaside-from-above or other combinations.

He’s had several marriage proposals happen during the flights, including one memorable excursion where the man and his friends had scrawled a huge “will you marry me?” in the sands of Seaside. She emphatically squealed “yes,” says Gary.

Later, Gary and I chat, and it turns out he was a bit of a celebrity in the 90’s. Together with his brother Stan Turel, the pair were the faces on Oregon TV commercials for their Columbia Tax Services. Yet another surprise today.

In the last year, Gary picked up another celebrity – in namesake, anyway. John Glen works for him as a second pilot: not John Glenn of space fame, however. Glen is a real trouper and lets his bosses get lots of mileage out of his name. This started back in the 60’s, during his high school days, as the famous John Glenn was making orbits. Glen was a delivery driver for a store, and his boss used Glen’s name to jokingly tout his business. The delivery vehicles were even named “capsule 1″ and “capsule 2.”

You’ll find Seaside Helicopters and the Seaside Family Fun Park just south of Seaside. Gary still makes some runs during the winter and early spring – mostly on weekends – when those famous beautiful, dry days hit. Generally, it’s considered closed during these months, and doesn’t really start up with an eye on a full schedule until spring break. However, one secret about the Oregon Coast is that February tends to have a run of sunny, warm days (much warmer than inland), so you may get lucky and have a chance to grab a ride then or on other days the weather seems cooperative to flight. Hwy 101, S. Seaside. http://www.seaside-helicopters.com. (503) 440-4123.

Holland – Beyond Amsterdam

Friday, November 21st, 2008

When people think of Holland, Amsterdam is usually the first place that comes to mind. Shockingly, places like Rotterdam and The Hague prove there is more to the country. Really!

Rotterdam

A traveler is often able to deduce certain things from the name of a destination. In the case of Rotterdam, nothing could be further from the truth. Nothing is rotting. Well, maybe something in the bottom of a fridge somewhere, but nothing in the public arena. Instead, Rotterdam is a vibrant, fairly modern Dutch city.

Rotterdam sits at the confluence of a couple of rivers and what appears to be a collection of canals designed on an child’s etch a sketch board. Despite this and nearly being wiped out in World War II, the city has a get on with your business kind of feel to it. Unlike Amsterdam, you’ll actually feel like you’re interacting with the Dutch in their daily lives. The rejuvenation of the city, however, has cost Rotterdam a bit of a character. There isn’t much to see, but the nightlife is hopping and museums carry collections from Monet and van Gogh.

The Hague

Known as the City of Peace and Justice, this is a place you want to watch your Ps and Qs! Home to such institutions as the War Crime Tribunal and International Criminal Court, The Hague definitely has the justice thing down pat. The city is actually a very nice place to visit with stunning architecture and cultural sites ad nauseum. On top of this, there are beaches and excellent wooded areas for hiking. The Japanese gardens in Park Clingendael are worth a trip. All and all, The Hague is more or less Amsterdam without the edginess.

Haarlem

If you start to burn out on Amsterdam, hop a train to Haarlem. In fact, just blow off Amsterdam and head directly to Haarlem. The city is a great place to see the “real Holland”. A funky place, Haarlem has everything Amsterdam does, but you’ll also find windmills outside of town.

Keukenhof Gardens

If you want to get garden envy, visit the Keukenhof Gardens to the south of Haarlem. The Gardens consists of miles of…gardens. Every plant known to mankind can be found and the fields of tulips and colors will temporarily blind you. If Buddha returned to the earth, this is where he would make his home. You can literally spend days just walking around drinking in the visual treat. Once you see it, you’ll never look at your backyard the same way again.

Amsterdam is the hot travel destination in Holland. If you fail to venture out of the city, however, you’ll be missing some incredible places.

The Parador of Arcos de La Frontera, Spain

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Parador of Arcos De La Frontera

Arcos De La Frontera is one of those typical white towns of Andalucia where you feel as if you have stumbled into another epoch. Arcos was controlled by the Moors up until 1264 and still retains the feel of those times.

The Parador Arcos De La Frontera stands high above the Ro Guadalete with nearly a shear drop-off on one side. This dramatic location is reminiscent of Ronda, but Arcos is much less touristed than that city and the ambience far more relaxed.

Parador Arcos De La Frontera is flanked by castle walls and the large Gothic-Mudéjar church of Santa Mara de la Asuncin. From here you get incredible views to the river valley far below. The town is a mix of fine Moorish and Renaissance buildings. At the center is the Plaza del Cabildo which fronts the Arcos Parador.

Arcos is a town for meandering. Wander up and down the steep streets. You’ll delight in making your own discoveries here – no guidebooks necessary!

If you visit in early August, you’ll be enchanted by the late-night concerts on the main plaza during the Fiesta de la Virgen de las Nieves. Stay on until September and you might have become “local” enough to participate in their especially wild version of the running of the bulls!

Be sure and dine in the exceptional restaurant at the Parador. The wood-beamed dining room has a very nice feel, and views that are panoramic. This is one of the finest restaurants you will find for trying some of Andalucia’s traditional dishes.

Interesting in-town excursions from the Arcos De La Frontera Parador:

- The wonderful Castillo de los Duques.

- The Basilica-Paroquia de Santa Maria.

- The Convento de la Encarnacion.

- The Iglesia de San Pedro.

- The Palacio Mayorazgo.

Interesting day trips include:

- Jerez de la Frontera – Try to see the incredible Andalusian horses dancing and jumping to the music of Beethoven at the Real Escuela Andaluz del Arte Ecuestre. A tour of one of the Sherry Bodegas is always fun – especially the free tastings!

- Sevilla – One of the “must see” cities in Spain.

- Ronda – Set in an breathtaking situation on top of the most awesome gorge in all Spain.

- Cadiz – The oldest city in Europe. Cadiz has an altogether pleasant ramshackle quality that draws travelers back again and again.

The Arcos De La Frontera Parador literally oozes the character of Andalucia. The town of Arcos combines a near-perfect mix of spectacular natural surroundings and historically interesting cultural sites. Being centrally located between the great cities of Sevilla, Ronda, Cadiz and Jerez, it makes a great base from which to fan out and visit the best of western Andalucia.
